Hackers get Norway info secrets

Like other countries, Norway is not immune to computer attacks. Oil, gas and defense companies in Norway have been affected by a number of sophisticated hacker attacks. According to the Norwegian National Security Agency ( NSM) trade secrects and information on contract negotiations have been stolen. The attackers accessed the corporate network through personalized email messages with attached viruses, which caused no anti-malware detection system. The NSM has found that these attacks took place whe the companies concerned were engaged in important commercial contracts. The US Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive ( ONCIX) point the finer at Russian and Chinese intelligence .

More and more internet is becoming an important part of our lives. We can even say that it is nearly impossible to live without it. The majority of our information is stored in the computer ( e-mail, photos, essays..). The fact that someone spies your personal information can be catastrophic, but reaches greater levels if instead of a person, what is spied is a company or a business. The problem also comes when an attacks affects not only the company but also the others, usually costumers. Your private data may end up published on the Internet, also credit cards...Such attacks are multiplying thoughout the years and it is necessary to improve the defense mechanisms within companies in order to avoid tragedies.

  1. As you said, it is really important to improve defense mechanisms because all your personal data can be all around the world without knowing it, and thats illegal, of course. But also, in really big companies is really a threat because hackers can have all the data and the information useful to rob and break the company.

  2. I completely agree with you girls, the idea of being control through the Internet is something that really scares me. Since we studied in Computer Science that the companies have access to the whole information you post on the net even if you protect it, I always think about it before I decide to show my pictures, my address or even before buying with my credit card. It is true that those mechanisms of controlling people through the Internet have helped lots of governments finding terrorists and impostors, but the privacy has a limit, and our society does not seem to find it.

  3. I completely agree with both of you. This type of hacking poses many dangers such as identity theft and blackmail amongst others. In adittion, it could allow these people to access government information as it ocurred in the past with Wikileaks. On the other hand, if these hackers were recruited by the government they could help fight child pedophilia and terrorism on the internet. However, there should be a limit in our privacy, which has been violated considerably since the establishment of the internet.
